I agree wholeheartedly that public schools should be teaching about ALL religions in context to their subjects (history, social studies, geography, etc), and I have only seen one side of the video mentioned in this post, but even if remotely based in truth, why isn't the ACLU investigating to figure out if the administrators truly acted in good faith?
If the ACLU is or has investigated, I would enjoy reading about that to see what was found during the investigation.
My only thought, is that if the same thing happened with another religion(Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc) would there be the same response?
I also hope this does not incite further anti-Muslim actions, since I serve in the military and have deployed to help many countries with an overwhelming Muslim majority, and such actions make my job much more difficult.

We're not a constitutional democracy, we're a constitutional republic.

Democracy literally means "tyranny of the masses". That is, 50%+1 of the population can do anything that they want to the 50%-1. An example of Democracy was the popular persecution of the Jews in Europe leading up to, and culminating, in World War 2. That is, the Jews lost their rights because the majority of the people thought they shouldn't have any.

Democracy is evil.

In a Republic, Government is limited in powers and are barred from violating citizen's rights, no matter how many people want to, without due process.

How would the compact force the states that did not join the compact to recount their votes if the margin of the national popular vote is less than 0.5%? there have been 4 presidential elections within this margin, which would spur an automatic recount in many states including mine for other elections (and currently for the presidential election as well). This is 9% of elections, or once every eleven elections. Seeing that it has happened four times, there needs to be an "out" for states if the election is this close. My suggestion is that if the national vote is within the margin that would spur an automatic recount within the state, that the state winner prevail.

These are good reasons to let protesters, even detainees, hunger strike. But we must treat convicted criminals differently from ordinary people. Ordinary people can refuse treatment or commit suicide because that’s their right. If they prefer suffering and perhaps dying through protest, we must let them because their life is theirs. But convicts lack that right. They can’t choose protest and death over their punishment. If we recognize their right to choose outcomes they prefer that interfere with their sentence, then forget letting them kill themselves – we should also let them leave prison.

The First Amendment protects prisoners somewhat, but we deny them speech that spares them their sentence. We don’t let a prisoners peaceably assemble in front of City Hall or express their religion by visiting Jerusalem. Nor should we let them protest by dying.

MSF and the AMA condemn force-feeding because they want what’s best for their patients. They’re right, and those who call force-feeding humanitarian are wrong. But prisons aren’t humanitarian and shouldn’t give prisoners what’s best for them. They should give prisoners exactly what they deserve. Nothing better – in this case death, which they prefer. And nothing worse either, like torture. Force-feeding may look like torture, but unless we mean it as such, it’s no more so than restraining an inmate who cuts himself or tasing one jumping the fence.

These sorts of charges are way more common than you would think. I called my state rep just a few months ago because I saw very similar charges in another court (it was the defendant doing the taping this time), and my research revealed that the vast majority of such cases (including the precedent construing the statute) are simply cases of police retaliating with criminal charges against anyone who questions their tactics.

This HAS to be changed!
