... how many people believe that all the prisoners sent to Guantánamo Bay are terrorists -- not unlucky victims between the ages of 13 and 98 of the Bush administration's haphazard efforts to make it look like it's actually doing something helpful about the threat of terrorism, turned in for large cash bounties, more than half of which have been determined never to have committed a hostile act against the U.S. or our allies and released.

Sloppy thinking like this isn't making us any safer. It's possible to be safe and to hold true to the ideals the country was founded on -- and it's long past time to close Guantánamo.
