A Blow for Guantanamo

What's worse, Bush's indefinite "detention" of prisoners at Guantanamo, or the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court took so long to do anything about it?  Today's Boumediene decision affirming the right to bring a habeas corpus petition in federal court (once considered a basic tenet of our justice system) is another blow to the Bush regime and brings a glimmer of hope that the rule of law still means something in this country.  Still, six years of unlawful confinement by our government is a disgrace.  Guantanamo must be closed.

Kudos to the Boston attorneys who no doubt spent countless hours and spared no expense in obtaining this victory.

The only problem is that the Bush Admin's practices at Guantanamo have been struck down by the Court before. Bush has either ignored the Court's decision or maneuvered around it. I have little hope this one will stick.

FYI, here is another human rights blog: www.humanrightsresearch.blogspot.com
