It’s Presidents Day and Black History month; what better time to test your knowledge of obsure facts and history, along with a couple things that everyone reading this blog ought to know. Submit your answers in the comments section, and if you get all five questions you’ll be eligible for a fabulous prize! (just kidding). And no, you can’t just google the answers.
1. Article II of the U.S. Constitution covers what?
2. Who made this statement and when? "I stand before you today as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency of the United States. I am not the candidate of black America, although I am black and proud. I am not the candidate of the women's movement of this country, although I am a woman, and I am equally proud of that. I am not the candidate of any political bosses or special interests. I am the candidate of the people."
3. What scholar, educator and leader was born on February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, Mass.?
4. The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits what?
5. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on what?

I found the answer to No. 2 -- with her speech -- on NPR!
Must be Shirley Chisholm, right? I didn't peek at NPR. Sarah
Yes!
Complete answers will be posted on Friday!
Gulp. I'm afraid I'm not up on my constitutional law. Who knows maybe by reading this blog I can learn something.
The current presidential race has brought Shirley Chisholm's candidacy back into view, so I'm pretty confident that she's the answer to question #2. On all the other questions, I'd be falling back on my grade-school skills for guessing. Couldn't you help by making this test multiple choice?
So, it's been awhile since that last Con Law or Poli Sci class...
THE ANSWERS:
1. Article II sets forth the powers of the President and EXECUTIVE BRANCH of gov't. (remember, this was partly a Presidents Day quiz).
2. The Obama campaign has brought renewed interest in the candidacy of SHIRLEY CHISHOLM in 1972.
3. A bit of Massachusetts black history here: W.E.B. DuBOIS was born in the western part of the Bay State.
4. The 13th Amendment ABOLISHED SLAVERY in 1865.
5. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, in various sections, prohibits discrimination based on RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX and NATIONAL ORIGIN.
Thanks to all who participated! Next time look for multiple choice answers.
